Taido Karate Club Workshop

This past weekend the back gym of Sanderson Center was filled with the sharp, loud shouts (kiai) of martial artists perfecting their dynamic art. The MSU Taido Karate Sport Club hosted a fist of black belts from the U.S. Taido Association, as well as members of the Georgia Tech student club. Seven black belts and five other ranks took MSU club students through their drills (hokei).

“Taido is a Japanese martial art and means ‘way of the body.’ This martial art incorporates flexibility, quick footwork, changing angles and powerful punches and kicks,” said Brenna Carlisle, President of MSU Taido.

This is the fourth year in a row that MSU Taido has hosted the spring workshop. The weekend-long training is a run up to the U.S. Taido Tournament in Atlanta. Some half dozen MSU club members will be competing in the national tournament on March 11, 2017.

The MSU Taido Club is open to MSU students, faculty and staff. The club practices three times per week at Sanderson. For more information, see: http://taido.org.msstate.edu/. The club is directed by second degree black belt Dr. Shelley Keith (Department of Sociology).
